Arkansas State University Staff Senate met on April 19, at 9:00 a.m. in the Library's Board Room.

The Senators present were as follows:

I.  Call to order:  The meeting was called to order by President Tammy Fowler at 9:02 a.m.

II.  Minutes:  The minutes from the March 2000 meeting were approved as read.

III.  Treasurer's Report:  Senator Jackie McDaniel reported an adjusted balance of $461.18.

IV.  Agenda Topics:
-Computer Usage Policy:    Discussed Roger Lee's proposed Computer Usage Policy for students.

-Compensated Leave for Staff:     Senator Russ Hannah discussed utilizing compensated leave for staff as the University currently does for faculty.  A committee was formed for additional research.

-Parking Decals:    President Tammy Fowler informed the senate of an IX sticker that will be available to certain "outter-core" departments.  Contact University Police for more details.  Also, it was decided that free parking decals will be issued to retired faculty and staff effective Aug 15.

V.  Committee Reports:
-Picnic Committee:     Senator Southard encouraged everyone's involvement with Staff Senate Picnic which will be May 17th from 11 am - 2 pm.  There will be music, free hamburgers and hotdogs, fresh lemonade, silent auction with several items and finally a bake sale.

-Performance Award Committee:    Senator Janet Hardin reported that all the nominations have been received.  The ceremony will be held on July 12th.  Additional information will be available at a later date.

-Child Care Committee:    President Tammy Fowler discussed proceeding with the option of a private provider.  Committee is continuing to move forward.

-Drug Awareness:    Doug Mathis asked for several senators to volunteer to form a committee.  A committee was formed with Senator Barton, Senator Murray, and Senator Halcom.

VI.  New Senators:  Since Senator Barbara Broadaway will be retiring and Senator Mark Sandy will no longer be an ASU employee, the Staff Senate will be electing two new senators in the near future.

VII.  Elections:     President - Carol Barnhill; President-Elect - Hope Phillips; Treasurer - Jackie McDaniel; Secretary - Vicki White.

VIII.  Next Meeting :  May 18, 2000 at 9:00 a.m. in the Library Board Room.
