I.    Call to order:    The meeting was called to order by President Carol Barnhill at 9:01 a.m.

II.    Minutes:    The June 15th minutes were approved and read.

III.    Treasurer's Report:    Carol Barnhill presented the Treasurer's Report.  She reported our previous balance was -$810.69 (as of 6/30/00).  However, we moved $488.00 from our agency account and Dr. Wyatt gave us $322.68 which has made our balance zero (0).

IV.    Child Care Committee Report:     Tammy Fowler reported that the committee will pursue this issue once the faculty returns to campus from the summer.  She will ask again to have the Elementary Education Dept. develop an RFP proposal for a child care facility.  Committee will meet this fall semester and will move forward.  They will develop a criteria and RFP then move on to negotiate a child care program.  As far as the location of the day care facility, there are two to three areas being considered.

V.    Professional Sabbatical Leave Report:    Russ Hannah stated the senators on this committee are Sue Southard, Kathy Meyers, and Judy McCay.  They have developed a rough draft at this time but are not prepared to discuss it in detail.  Tammy Fowler asked if an employee takes sabbatical leave, can someone replace that employee such as an exchange agreement.  Russ will have more information on this report at a later date.

VI.    Cookbook Committee Report:    Danny Faulk discussed the recipe form for the senators to complete and share with their fellow employees.  Robin Hicks said the deadline for the recipes is August 11.  The recipe form will be included in the July 30th paychecks.  We will entitle the cookbook "Staff Senate Cookbook".  Walker Publishing Company will put together the cookbooks.  There is no "up front" cost.  We can order a small amount of cookbooks and order extra at a later time, if needed.  Reordering is easy with this company.  The cookbook will cost us $3.00 to $3.50 per book.  We will sell them for $10.00 each.  We will order 150 to 200 books to sell sometime in the Fall.  The cookbooks will be great to sell at the End of Year Picnic in the Spring.  Danny reminded the senate to keep the cookbook simple.  We will place the money raised from the cookbooks into our agency account.  Once we receive the cookbooks, we will receive the invoice within 90 days.

VII.    General Assembly Committee Report:    Hope Phillips said that we will change the name of the General Assembly Meeting to "Town Hall" Meeting in order to keep it informal.  This is scheduled on August 30th in the Ballroom of the Reng Center at 2:30 p.m.  We have checked the By-Laws and there is no problem in changing the name.  We received 40 responses on the Staff Senate Questionnaire.  Dr. Wyatt will send an e-mail campus wide to encourage vice presidents, deans, chairs, and directors to support and allow staff to attend the meeting.  We need to get more employees involved in our committees.  We need to emphasize that you do not have to be a staff senator to serve on a committee.

VIII.    Homecoming Committee:    Danny Faulk remarked that this committee will meet in August.  Tami Murray expressed her desire to serve on this committee.  If anyone else would like to join, please see Danny.  We will have our hospitality booth setup during Homecoming while students are making their homecoming floats.  We need to check with Vicki Pillow (#3940) in Athletics about a tent/space for the homecoming tailgate event.  We will use the Staff Senate tent for hospitality booth.

IX.    New Business:    UCA is interested in communicating with University sites about Staff Senate.  They want to form an Ad Hoc Committee to meet twice a year.  We can use this time to exchange ideas, brainstorm, etc.  Henderson State had notified Carol Barnhill to see if we have a dress code.  We do not want one at ASU.  St. Bernard's RMC/ASU/Blue Cross/USAble Administrators are sponsoring a Women's Health Education Program on Thursday, July 27 at 12:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. in the Lecture Hall of the Convocation Center.  The program is free.  The College of Nursing and Health Professions is serving as a repository for clothing and shoes, non-perishable food items, and eye glasses (frames & lenses) to be distributed at Mission Serve on 8-12-00 and 8-13-00.  Hope Phillips announced that Jim Pitts was nominated as the ASEA Outstanding State Employee from ASU.  A discussion pursued about our agency account.  Can we get the Silent Auction money returned ($488) that we used to cover the plaques purchased for the Distinguished Performance Award Ceremony?  If we do, we may use this money to fund a scholarship for students.  We will discuss this further at our August meeting.

X.    August Meeting:    The next meeting is scheduled on Thursday, August 17, at 9:00 a.m. in the Library's Board Room.

XII.    Meeting Adjourned:    10:00 a.m.
